Team Tekera

Team Tekera

Team captain: Sonya Sangster

Team Tekera is made up of a community in Tekera Village, Uganda. This team lives in a rural area - which is being greatly affected by climate change. Individuals are having to walk farther for water daily - due to the effects of climate change - causing severe seasonal droughts. It's making rain fed agriculture nearly impossible. 95% of our community relies on the rain for their sustenance crops for their families so lack of water is not good. Our community is coming together to empower a solution. They are running and walking to raise money for a solar powered well, which will be accessible to the community. We have about 100 runners for the Great Climate Race - but they can't contribute due to lack of smart phones, internet etc to access Strava! We will also be giving out baby fruit trees at our community event to all participants, and having local experts talk to the community about local environmental concerns dealing with climate change (recent deforestation efforts for rice plantations, climate change effects and government programs etc). Please help us in funding this well! Webale (thank you)! Team Tekera
